Image Of The Month - July 2014
This is the iconic Rosebud Diner that's been a New England landmark in the Davis Square neighborhood of Somerville Massachusetts since the 1940s and is listed on the National Register Of Historic Places. In 2013, after 40 years of family ownership, the Rosebud was sold to the founder of a chain of Italian restaurants who has promised to leave the exterior untouched.
With this capture, I wanted to do justice to the wonderful retro feel that this place has with the conversion to a black and white image, while also retaining the marvellous fluorescent colors of the neon sign. A little bit of Photoshop magic later and this was the result. I'm very pleased with how this image came out. The fire hydrant and the light on the sidewalk really complete the effect for me.
