Image Of The Month - September 2014
It's not just because it is my home that Boston holds a very special place in my heart. Cities built on the water have a certain special charm and Boston is no exception. The city is in no small way defined by its ocean waterfront and by the Charles River that runs along one edge of it and flows out into Boston Harbor past the famous Charlestown Navy Yard and the airport. This photograph was taken from a whale watching boat at the end of a beautiful Summer day as the boat was approaching the city again from the navigation channel that runs out past the airport. Big thunderheads were already building in the bright, hazy sky as we neared the harbor again, and at a certain moment, the Boston city skyline, silhouetted in the haze, came together with these spectacular rays of sunlight cast by the clouds and I was able to capture this unusual view of the city. Within a half hour of this picture being taken, the sky had darkened ominously and minutes after we disembarked at the downtown waterfront, a huge storm was unleashed with the kind of high winds, thunder, lightning and torrential rain, that would have made our boat trip rather more adventurous had we still been out on the water. © New England Image
